I've got the Blues

Being a huge fan of blues music, the Frederikshavn Blues festival was at the top of my list. A few musicians who’ve inspired me to listen to blues music are Eric Clapton, BB king, Derek Trucks and Muddy Waters. With top legends such a Buddy Guy and Robert Cray performing at the concert, I just had to go! At the work place, I found a fellow Blues fan who was eagerly willing to accompany me.

Frederikshavn is a small city in Denmark and just a short ferry ride away from Göteborg. The Frederikshavn Blues festival is an annual three-day concert with a line-up of leading and budding blues bands.

With my new camera, this was also the perfect opportunity to test the low light performance of my camera. The concert was jam-packed with fellow enthusiasts and it was indeed a challenge to dodge nudges and photo-bombs.

Despite being deeply captivated by music, I did manage to pull out my camera to take some pictures.

Firsts: Family Photoshoot

Towards the end of summer in Göteborg, I had tried my hands on landscape and cityscape photography. Now, I wanted to experiment with family portrait photography.  I found a willing and eager subject in my friends and their adorable 6-month-old son.

I scouted for a few locations within the city and settled on Slottsskogen Park. On the day of the shoot, the weather was ideal, and the sun was on my side.

I started first with the baby. He was adorable but tough to work with. I found that children constantly move and get a distracted very easily. While I was covering the baby, the parents did a great job of engaging him with some toys and hand gestures.

I found that right moment when he smiled at his favourite toy.

I also wanted to capture some family portraits for them to frame and keep as memory. We tried different positions, at different spots within Slottsskogen Park. It was a challenging task to find the right posture and ensure that the picture is well balanced. I wanted the picture to look natural and candid.

This was fun! If any of you would like to take some family or even couple shots, do drop a message.

The Berlin Experience

Berlin is one of my favourite cities in the world. It is so vibrant with a wonderful mixture of history and modernism.

I have taken multiple trips to Berlin, but this was the first time with my new camera. While on a walking tour of the city during the day, I captured this ‘under construction’ Berliner dom. The Berliner Dom or the Berlin Cathedral is an evangelical church located in the Museum Island.

Fact: By the end of the Second World War, 25 percent of the Cathedral had been destroyed. It was not until 1952/53 that, with the assistance of the City of Berlin and the church authorities the 20 metres wide hole above the Sermon Church was sealed with an emergency dome. Reconstruction of the outer layer in its historical shape was completed in 1984. Currently, renovation of the dom is currently underway (Source: www.berlinerdom.de)

At night, the city lights came to life! We had visited the city during the ‘Festival of Lights’. I experimented with prolonged exposure with light trails of vehicles. Here is a photograph of the DB building at Potsdamer Platz. Quite bright, isn’t it?

And so it begins...

I’ve always been interested in photography, taking pictures using the camera on my phone didn’t justify the content of my imagination. Yes, you guessed it right, I got a new camera as a birthday present from my wife the day I turned 29.

Really excited with my new toy, I spent the whole weekend reading up on its functions and exploring its features.  I could finally go and take some pictures with it!

I headed straight towards Älvsbergsbron (Älvsbergs bridge). Älvsbergsbron is a large suspension bridge that connects the north and the south parts of the city. Travelling to work on this bridge was an everyday routine. I’ve always been enthralled looking at the bridge every time I cross it. With my new camera, I could finally capture this magnificent structure using the right light and my imagination.

After standing ankle deep in water, using prolonged exposure, I believe I’ve finally done justice to the beauty of the bridge.
