The Berlin Experience

Berlin is one of my favourite cities in the world. It is so vibrant with a wonderful mixture of history and modernism.

I have taken multiple trips to Berlin, but this was the first time with my new camera. While on a walking tour of the city during the day, I captured this ‘under construction’ Berliner dom. The Berliner Dom or the Berlin Cathedral is an evangelical church located in the Museum Island.

Fact: By the end of the Second World War, 25 percent of the Cathedral had been destroyed. It was not until 1952/53 that, with the assistance of the City of Berlin and the church authorities the 20 metres wide hole above the Sermon Church was sealed with an emergency dome. Reconstruction of the outer layer in its historical shape was completed in 1984. Currently, renovation of the dom is currently underway (Source: www.berlinerdom.de)

At night, the city lights came to life! We had visited the city during the ‘Festival of Lights’. I experimented with prolonged exposure with light trails of vehicles. Here is a photograph of the DB building at Potsdamer Platz. Quite bright, isn’t it?
